We have been to the Nelson ghost town four times, about every other year since 2014. The reason why we always go back is that there is plenty to shoot, changing weather conditions/different seasons, and the place continues to evolve. In 2018, we added Athen and Arden as models. Nelson is only 45 minutes south of Las Vegas. We highly recommend a trip out there. Here is what you might see.
There are several different styles and techniques to try in Nelson. One is definitely go for the wide angel environment shots.
There are also plenty of small details to zoom in on.
I think my favorite “seeing and composition” challenge is finding intimate landscapes or small scenes that are self-contained.
Finally, we have seen quite a few modelling sessions out here so we wanted to try it ourselves. Our daughters were game for it, which was fun.
