When Mary and I get home from a trip and download our photos, my favorite thing to do is compare our compositions. I am the wide angle person and she is the one who sees the details. Our Scottsdale trip was no different.
We both shot mostly with our infrared cameras, but we also carried our Sony RX 100 point and shoots. We went to the Desert Botanical Garden in Scottsdale and the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. Both of them had great examples of Saguaro cactus.
It’s pretty easy to make all vertical portraits when shooting Saguaros. I try to do both portrait and landscape orientations.
I like these two as an example of how moving just a step to the right or left makes a difference. Also, Mary moved in a bit closer and filled the frame nicely.
Same cactus. Mary moved to our right and put the mountain on the right side, while I got low and put the mountain on the left.
This one is classic Peter and Mary. She got tight and I went wide.
