Mary and I have been to Kauai a few times, but have always spent most of our time on the North Shore. On our last trip there, we spent a week in the South seeing many of the local sights and enjoying some down time. Here are some of our favorite photography locations on the South shore.
We always start out with a quick trip up to Wailua Falls because its near the airport.
We made the trip to Waimea Canyon twice. There are numerous ways to photograph Waipoo Falls in KoKee State Park.
We also drove to the end of Highway 550 twice. Its tempting to stop at the Kalalau Lookout, but keep driving to the end of the road because the Pu’u O Kila Lookout is better and is the starting point for a few hikes.

In Kapaa, drive to the Opaekaa Fallas and then up the mountain and hike the Kuilau Ridge Trail.
Closer to Poipu and Koloa, you can see Spouting Horn, Makahuena Arch and hike the Mahaulepu Heritage Trail.

And of course don’t forget the sunsets.
