On our way to Anza Borrego, Mary and I stopped at the Salton Sea beach (our third or fourth set up there) and captured the weird and beautiful landscape and other “junk.” Here is the epitome of the Salton Sea in all is glory – beautiful dessert landscape, littered by the broken dreams of man. See what I mean:
The “beach” that is south of the Marina has many abandoned and burned-out houses and motor-homes. The beach is really made of ground fish bones, and it has a salty alkaline smell. With several “chairs” about, we were not short of subjects. Finally, we were fortunate to have amazing mid-day skies. We shot with both our color and infrared cameras.
We drove over to the Marina which is just a few blocks north driving over the downed fence (probably trespassing, though I did not see any signs) and got a few more shots.
Here are two other blogs about the Salton Sea – Bombay Beach and Red Hill Marina. I would recommend Salton Sea beach for at least one trip. Not sure, we feel the need to go back. It is a bit sad and definitely creepy.

Love this and YES, it is beyond creepy. My favorite shot was the last one in the blog, but that image with the murdered lazy boy is s.p.o.o.k.y. Great stuff!
The murdered lazy boy was pretty cool. All the chairs you see were photographed as we found them. we did not touch a thing.
Finding beauty in the ugly…
Yup. You just have to look for it. Thanks for the note.
