One of the most popular locations in Acadia is the top of Cadillac Mountain where you have 360 degree views of the surrounding mountains, ocean and Bar Harbor. Here is what you might see.

Ten years ago, you could drive up here anytime. Now, you MUST have a reservation from recreation.gov to get onto the road. The sunrise reservations are gone in seconds, as we tried to get one three days in a row. Though thwarted, we did manage to snag a 9 AM and a 1 PM reservation on two different days.

Our 9 AM was our beautiful sunny day

There are two parking lots, one on the top of the mountain called East and one about .3 miles below it called West. The top is the most popular, but the lower lot has great views too. We chose the lower lot for our 1 PM day and walked along the Cadillac South trail. It was horribly foggy, but very moody. With the reservation system, parking was not a problem. I would recommend getting a reservation months ahead.
