Harbors are usually target rich environments to find both grand landscape type subjects and also intimate subjects and intimate landscapes. Mark and I ventured out on a particularly cold sunrise morning to see what we could see.

There are six harbors on Mount Desert Island, home of Acadia National Park. Bar Harbor is closest to the main attractions in Acadia, but it is un-interesting for photography. We wanted to find a real working harbor with lobster and fishing boats. After a 35 mine drive in the pitch black dark, we were on the piers and wharves of Bass Harbor. Here are a few of my favorites photos from that morning.

When I am in a harbor I am looking for a few interesting subjects – anything really colorful like blue, orange or red, especially a boat; row boats with oars, boat houses, fishing gear, like ropes and lobster traps.
