On the first night of our Alaska trip, we headed out to this short hike and look-out after a fantastic salmon dinner with Mark McDermott and Cat Larrea. This look-out is only a few minutes from their home and has spectacular views. Here are a few:
The Glen Alps Trailhead, View Point and parking lot is just 20 minutes from downtown Anchorage. It is the nearest jumping off point to the massive 495,000 Chugach State Park. We hiked up toward Flattop Mountain to get these views down the valley and then around to Blueberry Hill with views of downtown and the Cook Inlet
The tides ebb and flow quite a bit here and at low tide there are mudflats with spectacular patterns.
After hiking around Blueberry Hill, we watched sunset from the Glen Alps outlook near the parking lot. We had a pretty good show.

This night was a great start to our trip with a few more adventures to come.
