The view from Flattop Mountain and Blueberry Hill in Anchorage, Alaska

On the first night of our Alaska trip, we headed out to this short hike and look-out after a fantastic salmon dinner with Mark McDermott and Cat Larrea.  This look-out is only a few minutes from their home and has spectacular views.  Here are a few:1808_PSA_Alaska IR_1432

The Glen Alps Trailhead, View Point and parking lot is just 20 minutes from downtown Anchorage.  It is the nearest jumping off point to the massive 495,000 Chugach State Park.  We hiked up toward Flattop Mountain to get these views down the valley and then around to Blueberry Hill with views of downtown and the Cook Inlet

The tides ebb and flow quite a bit here and at low tide there are mudflats with spectacular patterns.

After hiking around Blueberry Hill, we watched sunset from the Glen Alps outlook near the parking lot.  We had a pretty good show.

Remember to always look behind you during sunset.

This night was a great start to our trip with a few more adventures to come.
