One of the strangest and most interesting “museums” we have ever seen is just a few miles off of CA Highway 62 in Yucca Valley.  It is easy to visit on the way to or from Joshua Tree.  Here is what you will see.

Here is a link to the Museum.  What you will experience is seven acres of open land displaying Purifoy’s assemblage sculptures, created between 1989 and 2004. Purifoy was a pioneer in the art of “assemblage sculpture.”  Due to time and weather, many of them are quite worn, but that only gives them more character.

Mary is especially reflective about “making art from someone else’s art.”  Are these photos our art or are they just photographs of someone else’s art?  I believe that a well executed photo of someone’s art, can be artistic and that some photos are definitely better than others.  These are clearly not “original art”, but I do think they are deliberate efforts to make a pleasing photo from Purifoy’s art and maybe even find the essence in his pieces.

Mary shot in color and I, in infrared.

We arrived first thing in the morning and had great light, a nice sky, and no people, but us.  We spent about an hour wandering around.  Let us know what you think.
