Mary and I just came back from our 5th Death Valley trip. We have been to this national park more than any other. It is not the closest to our home, but it is near enough, interesting enough, and varied enough to deserve many multiple trips. We had two great sunsets, a spectacular sunrise, and a Desert Gold flower “super bloom.” Here is what we saw.
There is a lot to see and do, but I do have a punch list we need to do every time and I have added two more must see locations. You can do all of this in good light in a three day weekend.
Sunrise at Zabriskie Point
Sunset at the Devil’s Golf Course
Early morning at the sand dunes
We also have infrared cameras that are ideal for mid-day shooting. Taking the Badlands loop hike from Zabdriskie Point gives you a close-up view of Manley Beacon and the Red Cathedral.
Cottonball Basin
Desert Gold Super-bloom
Sunset at Badwater Basin
In peak season staying in the Park is not cheap. We always recommend one nice dinner at the Furnace Creek Inn Dining Room.
We have numerous posts on our blog about Death Valley. Just type in Death Valley in the search box at the top.

Amazing photos! The first and the one with the yellow flower carpet are my favourite.
thank you. appreciate it
you are welcome
These are really a phenomenal set of photographs in one of the most unique places on earth ~ such colors and feel, and then such barren, sterile beauty as well.
Thank you.
I adore bleak landscapes, and these have such colour in them – beautiful!
Amazing captures!! We are going to DV this weekend.Which will be the best point to capture the beautiful sunset ? We will be travelling with 2 kids 🙂
You will have an amazing time. We like Badwater and Devil’s Golf Course for sunset. You might be tempted to go to Zabriskie point – but we think it is much better for sunrise. Have a great time….
I greatly enjoyed your blog, read a few posts about the Death Valley. Beautiful photographs and admirable passion. Thank you!
Lidia – thank you for the kind words. We’re glad you enjoyed our blog about Death Valley. We’re excited to start exploring other parts of the country and look forward to sharing them here.
