Last week, I blogged about being on the same beach as Edward Weston, and seeing the same things he did. It was an amazing and special experience. I started exploring abstracts, and then quickly got diverted by the interesting “sea food” that had washed up on the beach.
Usually I don’t find kelp and other ocean detritus especially exciting, but this beach was surprisingly unique. The colors, shapes, textures, patterns were different and vibrant. I spent time looking for “arrangements”, similar to flower arrangements or how you would create a scene for a painting. I was fortunate, it was an overcast day, and the tide was in. The water helped to saturate the colors of the pebbles and the kelp. I could have spent hours there, but it was time to search for another grand landscape on the California coast.
