Someday I will get myself enrolled in a proper art class, in the meantime I will continue to extend my photographic journey into different directions. This week, I decided to give a pencil sketch technique a go.
Similar to last week, this is one of those cases where I blindly followed instructions and had no earthly idea what I was doing and why. I ended up trying this technique on three different images before I found one that I was happy with. This is a photograph from the Japanese Garden at the Huntington Gardens and Library. One of my favorite places to photograph. The original was taken with a color infrared camera. The technique comes from Digital Photography Magazine, one of the few I still subscribe to. They have a nice assortment of articles and techniques, and of course the addictive gear reviews. I decided to invest the extra time in creating a textured border, but can’t quite decide if it muddies things up too much. I do feel like a computer generated sketch is too predictable and not “human” enough, some day I will give “free-handing” a try…..

Lovely sketches.
thank you!
