Compelling Portraits: Capture the true family spirit

I am going to go off script and onto a tangent this week, so please bear with me.  Peter and I lost two family members in the last 5 weeks.  I have found comfort in photographs that were in my files, and those that “appeared” from others.  I encourage people often, to take time to capture memories of their loved ones; something more than just the casual snap on the iphone.  I hope this post inspires you to do the same.

The images in this post were not seen by anyone before this past week.  I was working on a “funny faces” project a couple of years ago, and asked members of my family to stand in front of a white background and emote.  In this series, I asked her to think about her two sons, imagining that she found out they got into trouble, being surprised, then displeased….. and then she ended with a big smile and laughter.  As people viewed these photos over the weekend I kept hearing “that’s so her!”  I can’t tell you how glad I was to have this series, and many, many more photos Peter and I  have made over the years.  I have always been so thankful for the patience of my family to indulge me in my creative efforts……I am even more so now.
