Photography Project: Photographing complementary colors

This week’s Visual Toolkit project was to photograph colors that are opposite on the color wheel, complementary colors. It would have been too easy to shoot red and green this week (and I don’t need to give people another reason to tell me I’m phoning it in), so I pulled out my color wheel (yes I have one), and tried to refresh what colors were complements of others (it gets tricky when you’re not dealing with primary colors). So here is this week’s project (I’m hoping my sister-in-law who is a university art teacher doesn’t call me out on screwing this up…..).

My main subjects were a (closed) boardwalk…..I am still bitterly disappointed I couldn’t even get close to the vintage 1912 carousel (yes, my husband is a saint for putting up with my quirks), and a bunch of kayaks staked on the pier. It really was like shooting fish in a barrel. I thought I would mix things up a bit, and try working with my new Lensbaby Edge 80 optic…..with the assignment and the optic my hands were full.
