It was one of those days where we managed to stretch a 2 1/2 hour drive into 6 hours. The weather was different this second time around, so we saw some different things and photographed some of the same things Hawk showed us but under different conditions.
We did seek out a new waterfall. We have now defined a curation process so we don’t stop at every cascade of water over a pile of rocks we drive by. The waterfall has to be named, appear on a map, and preferably have a parking lot so we don’t have to employ any kamikaze parking techniques. We walked 2.4 miles, which was the most exercise we’ve had to date. Well, except maybe for the time Hawk sent us straight up a mountain in the pouring rain trudging through angle deep mud.

Also of note was the consumption of Happy Marriage Cake #5. This one was especially memorable because it was served warm. It lasted 5.7 seconds, and it took that long because we were practicing the rare art of “last bite” marital etiquette. This art is similar to the one practiced by finches and terns called, Courtship Feeding, where food is passed back and forth which strengthens the pair’s bond. In our case it is the ritual of offering to the spouse the “last bite” which went back and forth a few times before it was finally consumed, with each “last bite” getting smaller and smaller. This took approximately 4.1 seconds.

We also had a “practicality” snafu today. Last time we were in Iceland we had difficulty refueling the car….on the last day of a month-long trip. We couldn’t use our credit cards at any of the pumps we tried. The issues could have been we didn’t have PIN codes on the cards, or they didn’t accept foreign cards.
So in our infinite wisdom, the first thing we did after getting the rental car was to buy a gas card. Which we ended up using on our first re-fueling stop. It only filled 1/4 of the tank. Sigh.
Once we arrived at our destination, we tried to buy another gas card. We left empty handed. After we checked into the hotel, I was determined to set up a PIN on every card we brought with us. I did successfully set up the PIN codes….they will arrive via the US postal mail at approximately the same time we get home.
In a desperate attempt to find another place to buy a gas card, I got on to one of the major gas stations website and asked their chat bot. This is what I got back. Apparently, Icelandic is not a language that is part of Safari Translate.

So not many stories to share today, it was a mello kind of road trip day enjoying the Icelandic landscape, driving the back roads listening to Van Morrison.
