Making photos as a team allows both of us to engage in our own vision of a subject and guarantees we usually have two distinct points of view.  We almost never even have a conversation about this, but invariably we end up covering all the bases of a particular subject.  Here is a good example:

If you follow us, you know Mary and I have distinct styles.  I am definitely a traditionalist and see the world in wide angle.  Mary sees the world in telephoto and is very creative with different points of view, and explores a lot of options when processing her photos.

This summer when we were visiting family in Colorado, we brought along our cameras just for fun.  The wild flowers were already past their prime, but we found a few interesting subjects.

There was more to shoot than flowers.  Mary chased a few butterflies until she got a good one.

Having a partner to photograph with is a great gift.  When it is also your loved one, it is even better.  We are constantly learning from each other and, at times, the best (and worst) critic of each other’s work.  If it takes 10,000 hours of deliberate practice to get good at something, you might as well do it with someone you like being around (for those 10,000 hours.)
